Ah! Out with the Ozzy, in with the Dio! Now *this* is a Black Sabbath I can really enjoy (the Tony Martin era still remains my fave though). The debut of the Ronnie James Dio-fronted Sabbath is one of Sabbath’s best albums. The band was definitely freed by Dio’s range, embracing new sounds they couldn’t have pulled off with Ozzy.

The album’s crown jewel is the title track. “Heaven and Hell” is a scorcher, and probably the best Dio Sabbath song, I really love the way it picks up the pace a bit past the four minute mark.

Highlights: “Neon Knights”, “Children of the Sea”, “Lady Evil”, “Heaven and Hell”, “Die Young”
