My favorite album from the Van Hagar-era. It’s a welcome and definite return to their hard rockin’ DLR party sound with longtime VH producer Ted Templeton returning alongside the legendary Andy Johns. David Lee Roth once said Van Halen forgot how to party once he left, this album proves him wrong. Songs like “Poundcake”, “Spanked” and “Man On A Mission” are right up there with the sex-charged songs in the early VH catalog. And if that’s not enough, just take a look at the album’s title and the initials for it.

Who remembers the classic “Right Now” from those Crystal Pepsi commercials? MMM… I miss Crystal Pepsi.

Highlights: All of it. Seriously, I love every song here and the album is right up there with the best of the DLR years.

  1. One of the last really BIG albums of the golden era. For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge came in June ’91 just a couple of months before Nirvana’s Nevermind in Sept ’91. I remember the buzz as huge for this record because VH was a “supergroup”, extremely successful and talented.

Of the 4 singles released for this record, I’ve always been partial to ‘Top Of The World’.

    Heavy Metal Addiction

  2. Van Halen has always been among my all-time least favorite groups.

I am aware that this is considered blasphemy in some circles.

  3. Good album and i agree its one of the best of the VAN HAGEN records. BALANCE is an other classic with their increible song AMSTERDAM on it.

  4. This Van Halen’s most underrated album thanks to the Sammy Hagar backlash from people like Adam Sandler.

This album rocks and has at least 3 tracks that are as good anything VH has ever done – “Runaround” “Right Now” and “Top of the World”.
