This is the one that started it all. Though Motley would later sometime adopt a slick, polished (and calculated) sleazy sound later on, this is one is real, raw and powerful. “Live Wire” is one of the greatest album openers of all time and it’s hard to handpick “highlights” because the whole album is an absolute classic. I have the 1999 re-issue and even *those* unreleased songs are great, they should’ve been included on the album the first ’round.

The whole album is just covered in dirt and sleaze and helped to kickstart a genre that Nikki Sixx hates. =) Whether they like it or not, Motley Crue are some of the founding fathers of hair & sleaze metal.

Highlights: Um… every song.

  1. Yes! My first intro to the Crue and it is still the best album of theirs to my ears. Every song is solid, not a filler in the bunch. Raw, in your face, loud, and obnoxious…..they did in 81/82 what GnR did in 87 with Appetite.

If I had to pick a fave it would be ‘Public Enemy #1’.
